If Ukraine is attacked, America will respond strongly, Biden spoke to Putin on the phone
There has been a phone conversation between US President Joe
Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both the heads of state have
discussed Ukraine in this conversation. According to the information given by
the White House, this conversation lasted for about 62 minutes. According to
the agency, the White House said that Biden had a conversation with Putin on a
phone call at 11:04 a.m. Saturday.
In this conversation, Biden told Putin that the result of
Russia's invasion of Ukraine would be "widespread human suffering".
Biden told Putin that the US would continue diplomacy on Ukraine but was
'equally prepared for other scenarios'. Biden has again asked Putin to withdraw
Russian troops gathered near the Ukrainian border.
Media reports said Biden warned Russia that the US and its
allies "will retaliate strongly and pay a heavy price" if it invades
Ukraine.
Earlier, the White House quoted intelligence reports as
saying that Russia may attack Ukraine soon. Before talking to Biden, Putin held
talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron also met with Putin in
Moscow earlier this week as part of an effort to resolve the crisis. Russia has
mobilized more than one lakh troops along the Ukrainian border and has sent its
troops for exercises in neighboring Belarus. However, Russia has consistently
denied that it is going to invade Ukraine.
The US State Department said in a travel advisory on
Saturday that most American employees have been ordered to withdraw from the
embassy in Ukraine's capital, Kiev. The consultation said that the American
people in Ukraine should also leave the country.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tried to
demonstrate peace. He witnessed military exercises on Saturday near Crimea.
Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. Zelensky said, "We're not afraid, we're not
nervous. Everything is under control."
Britain also asked its citizens to leave Ukraine on
Saturday. At the same time, increasing the crisis further, the US Defense
Department has ordered to send 3000 additional American soldiers to Poland. British
soldiers training the Ukrainian military also plan to leave the country.
Germany, the Netherlands and Italy have asked their citizens to leave as soon
as possible. Canada, Norway and Denmark have also asked their citizens to leave
Ukraine.
